North Shore Rugby Club

Shore play their first home game of the season against Helensville this Saturday. The reigning champions made a good start last weekend, thrashing Kumeu 7-40 away.

Friday Night Open Mic

Come to the Harmony Hall tonight to hear some talented local singers or give it a go yourself. Bring a plate and BYO.

St Georges Day

The City of Auckland Morris Dancers, the Shambles Band and folk duo Greg and Linda Whitcombe will be performing to celebrate the feast day of England’s patron saint. Tickets $20, book here.

General Events   

Supporting Gaza’s resilience with chef Nehad

Gaza native Nehad Albatniji will be at Vondel, serving up traditional Palestinian foods including fresh falafel, dolma, maklouba, baklava and hummus to raise money to bring his wider family to safety from Gaza. Local artists selling merchandise and live music are also on the agenda. All ticket proceeds will go towards bringing Nehad’s family to safety, with further proceeds from beverage sales, raffles, and donations going to Kia Ora Gaza and Imamia Medics International. An alcohol-free event, tickets available to purchase here.

Party at the Pump Track

Enjoy a barbecue and drinks, watch pro riders take on the track and, if you’re 14 years old or younger, have a go yourself at the Woodall Park Pump Track this Sunday. All under-14 riders need to sign in by 1pm. Pro riders from 4pm. Free event. 

When: Sunday 1pm-late.

Torpedo Bay Navy Museum 

Visit the Navy Museum at Torpedo Bay, with its extensive collection of photos, artefacts, medals and more, for a look into New Zealand’s maritime history. Young visitors can try their hand at making a medal as part of the school holiday activities still on offer. 

When: Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm.

Devonport Museum

The museum has many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history, along with memorabilia relating to schools, transport, early settlers and families, and a collection of historIcal photographs. 

When: 2-4pm, Saturday and Sunday.

Gallery Exhibitions 

The Depot Artspace

New Principles is a collection of contemporary furniture from emerging and established artists based in Auckland. The exhibition includes the work of six artists who present furniture not as accessories to a room, but as a highlight.  

When: Saturday, 10am-4pm.

Light into Dark

This exhibition features the work of 10 artists, including Ralph Hotere’s Song of Solomon, a collage piece made in response to the Gulf War. Two works from Devonport sculptor Helen Pollock will also be shown at the exhibition, which promotes messages of peace in conjunction with Anzac Day.
