A key pillar in providing the best all-round education possible is service, through which our students come face-to-face with the plight of those in most need and discover how they can make a positive and sustainable difference.

In partnership with our Chaplaincy team, King’s students are given opportunities to engage with their local community and learn the value of putting faith into action.

Through activities such as reading in local primary schools, visiting retirement homes and spending time at the local refugee resettlement centre, our students ‘walk the talk’ by sharing their time and energy with their community.

In recent weeks, a group of senior students spent their evening cooking a meal for more than 100 residents at Grafton Mews, a Ronald McDonald House at Auckland Hospital. Our chapel band accompanied them as well and entertained the families.

Our community service coordinator spoke highly of our students’ approach to volunteering and said that their efforts were much appreciated by the house’s residents.

We are a school that cares, and we are proud to be seen as such by being visible in these community initiatives.

We want our students to learn that giving their time and skills to the service of others is a rewarding and important commitment, one that should be ongoing throughout their life.

Service sits alongside learning and leadership in our eight-dimension educational philosophy, which aims to prepare students so that they can flourish in today’s rapidly changing world.

Central to this aim is the teaching of soft skills, such as a sense of involvement in the community, and an ability to be intuitive and collaborative, which will enable our students to make the most of opportunities presented to them. We take pride in the effect this has on our school environment, our local community, and most importantly, on our students.
