Hiroshima and Nagasaki Commemoration at Devonport Community House

The Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom invites the community to mark 80 years since the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and to remember those who died. Contact Ruth at ​ruth.calliope@gmail.com, or 021 169 7638, for more information.

Tau te Mauri — Breath Of Peace at The Vic

This documentary tells the story of peace campaigns in New Zealand and how the country became nuclear-free. Devonport was at the forefront of this activism, declaring itself nuclear-free in March 1981. Eight Kiwi activists are interviewed. Includes Q&A with the filmmaker. Tickets here.

Ecological restoration at Charles Street Reserve

Enjoy an afternoon of planting and ecological restoration at Charles Street Reserve, organised by Restoring Takarunga Hauraki.

Toy Library at Devonport Community House

Hundreds of quality toys, to try out or borrow, for kids aged up to six years old.

Volcanic Vinyl Pop-Up Record Store

New and used LPs for sale across most genres including funk, soul, punk, blues, rock, electronica, metal, reggae and hip hop, all in the convivial surroundings of Tiny Triumphs.

Devonport Navy Museum 

Visit the Torpedo Bay Navy Museum for a look into New Zealand’s naval history. The Tides of Change exhibition, part of the 2025 Auckland Festival of Photography, is displayed in the atrium. Instrumental to Defence, the history of the Royal New Zealand Navy Band, is on display in the Foyer Gallery.

Devonport Museum

The museum has many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history, along with memorabilia relating to schools, transport, early settlers and families, and a collection of historical photographs.

Music & Entertainment

The Vic: A Love Story

This short film charts the fascinating history of the Victoria Theatre, the oldest purpose-built cinema in the Southern Hemisphere. Select film screenings are part of the fundraising campaign to raise money for new seats for the cinema. Tickets here.

The 39 Steps: Drama at The Rose Centre

Spies, chases and over-the-top characters, The 39 Steps is a whirlwind of humour, suspense, and theatrical ingenuity. It’s based on the John Buchan novel and Alfred Hitchcock’s classic 1935 spy thriller, and brought to Belmont by Company Theatre. Beatrice Carlson’s collection of upcycled porcelain jewellery and wearable artworks is about reducing compulsive consumption by focusing on recycling/repurposing and rethinking the notion of preciousness.

Takarunga: A Natural History at DEPOT 3 Vic Road 

Takarunga: A Natural History presents a series of paintings by artist Tate Agnew that delve into the ecological and social history of the maunga, revealing its rich history and ecological significance. The Boundary of the Intelligible at DEPOT Artspace

In a new exploration of colour for artist Jennifer Mason, this exhibition offers a space for reflection and tranquillity, celebrating light, space and the beauty of peaceful contemplation.

The Stacey & Steve Show at DEPOT Lounge

The work of two friends on the same creative wavelength, using the same tools and techniques and with the same obsession with printmaking. Their show is a celebration of shared process, individual voice and the unpredictability of printmaking. See the story in the 1 August Flagstaff.

Lisa Watkins at the Rose Centre Art Spot
