General Events

Bayswater Markets and Moonlight Cinema 

Bring the kids, the pets, the grandparents and an appetite to this event offering fresh produce, baked goods, Christmas-gift options, live music, a bouncy castle and more, followed up with a screening of Home Alone around 8.15pm. 

When: Saturday, 8am-2pm. Cinema opens at 5pm (bring your own seating and blankets). 

Where: O’Neill Park, corner of Bayswater Ave and Beresford St.  

 

Volcanic Vinyl 

Add some records to your collection at the Volcanic Vinyl sale at Tiny Triumphs. A selection of new and second-hand vinyl from a range of genres including funk, soul, punk, blues, rock, electronica, metal, reggae and hip-hop. 

When: Saturday, 2-5.30pm.

Vondel Christmas Market

Kitchen knives, pottery, art, vintage clothing, handmade wooden chopping boards and more will be on offer at the Victoria Rd restaurant’s market this Sunday. Cash only.

Torpedo Bay Navy Museum 

Visit the Navy Museum at Torpedo Bay to see Over Seas – Mā te Moana, an exhibition of objects brought home by Royal New Zealand Navy sailors during overseas deployments all around the world. 

When: Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm. 

Where: 64 King Edward Pde.

 

Devonport Museum

The museum has many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history, along with memorabilia relating to schools, transport, early settlers and families, and a collection of historical photographs.

When: Saturday and Sunday, 2-4pm.

The Rose Singers

The Rose Singers concert A Night Before Christmas presents a selection of Christmas carols on Sunday evening. Doors open at 5pm, koha at the door is appreciated. To save your spot, email Ruth at ruth.chapman216@gmail.com or book here.

Aeolus saxophone quartet

The opening of The Cheltenham Milk Bar under Chateaubriant ownership is being celebrated with live music from the Aeolus Saxophone Quartet –  soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones coming together for a performance of jazzy Christmas carols and jazz standards.

Friday Night Open Mic

A Real Pain advance screening (R13) 

Mismatched cousins David and Benji reunite for a tour through Poland to honor their beloved grandmother. The adventure takes a turn when old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history. Directed by and starring Jesse Eisenberg.

Kurosawa Season: Sanjuro (PG) 

Toshiro Mifune swaggers and snarls to brilliant comic effect in Kurosawa’s tightly paced, beautifully composed Sanjuro (1962). In this companion piece and sequel to Yojimbo, jaded samurai Sanjuro helps an idealistic group of young warriors weed out their clan’s evil influences.
