Dim the Lights so I Can See in the Dark: Exhibition Opening
A solo exhibition by Hauraki-based artist Avi Clark. Through layered abstraction, these contemporary works explore what happens when we step back from the noise of the outside world, reflecting perception, stillness and the unseen.
When: Exhibition opening, Friday, 6–7.30pm (artist talk at 6.30pm). Otherwise, Tuesday to Sunday, 10am–4pm.

Figurative Artists Collective Exhibition: Depot Artspace
The Depot’s biggest exhibition of the year, Between Us, brings together 28 artists working across figurative art and portraiture. Co-curated by local artist Karlalise Horstmans, it includes past finalists in the Adam Portraiture Award. Sculptures and a range of media on canvas and paper are featured. Trauma in the Bones: Exhibition Opening
Devonport artist Manuahi presents an intimate collection of oil paintings and poetry, based on lived experience and giving form to stories often unseen or unspoken. Note: This exhibition includes references to mental health, suicide, and abuse as well as depictions of nudity.
When: Exhibition opening and artist talk, Saturday, 2–4pm. Otherwise, Tuesday to Saturday, 10am–4pm.

Happy Living Things: Satellite2
Three local artists combine for this exhibition that has animals in common. The works by Sandra Waine, David Bell and Louise Wigram feature prints, ink drawings and metal sculptures. Read the story in the 22 May Flagstaff.

Sport & Recreation
North Shore Rugby: Club Day
One of the biggest days of the season as North Shore hosts Takapuna in the annual Club Day. On-field action starts with a full programme of junior rugby, followed by local-derby matches for all four senior teams. The club will also host its annual Old Boys/Ladies and Centurions Lunch following the junior matches. This traditional event sees former Shore and Takapuna players celebrate the rich history and rivalry between the two clubs, alongside coaches, managers, volunteers, supporters and all those who’ve contributed to North Shore Rugby Club over the years. Cost: $30 per person (includes lunch and a beer). More information here.

North Shore United Football Club
In the Northern Region Football League, North Shore seniors and under-23s both have away matches against Hibiscus Coast. They are joined by North Shore’s premier women’s team, who top their table in Division 1 of the Auckland Community leagues. Read about their success in the 5 June Flagstaff. Friday and Saturday Afternoon Social Pétanque
Newcomers and beginners are always welcome. Boules are available for play. A fun opportunity to play pétanque and enjoy a social catch-up with friends and the local community afterwards in the clubrooms. More information here.

Drum and bass workshop
Haden, from music-production outfit Ill Truth, is running a two-hour workshop. Learn how he programmes and processes drums and basses and gets his mixes club-ready. Techniques that translate directly to professional-level music. Tickets here.

Masters of the Universe
A fun live-action science-fiction adventure based on the media franchise by Mattel that influenced a generation of children’s play through action-figurines and an animated TV series.

The Christophers
A wickedly black comedy….The children of a once-famous artist (Ian McKellen) hire a forger (Michaela Coel) to complete some unfinished, long-abandoned canvases, for the works to be later ‘discovered’ and sold after the artist’s death, securing the family an inheritance.

Power Ballad
When a past-his-prime wedding singer meets a fading boy-band star during a gig, the two bond over music and a late-night jam session. A feel-good story about music, self-respect, friendship and the price of ambition.

Vauxhall Arts & Laughs Evening
An evening of art, laughter, and dance tunes to raise funds for Vauxhall School and KidsCan. Aotearoa artists exhibit their work for auction, alongside comedians Tony Lyall and Justine Smith bringing the laughs, and DJ/producer Rodi Kirk keeping the dance floor buzzing. Bar and food trucks, raffles and prizes too. All welcome. Tickets here.

The Hauraki Assembly
A 90s night out for future, current, and past parents of the school — plus friends. This fundraiser features music, cocktail bar, quiz, quick-fire auctions, basketball shoot-out competition and more. Neon Nights at The Rose Centre

Join Restoring Takarunga Hauraki for the first community tree-planting of the Matariki season. Equity at the School Gate: Auckland Festival of Photography
An exhibition event showcasing the images of local photographer Francesca Brugnoli, which explore the work of Painga Project, a charity bringing vision-testing to children at Onepoto School in Northcote.
