New Zealand String Quartet at Depot Artspace
A programme of fresh and familiar classical works is on the cards when the quartet plays at the Depot tonight. As part of its 2024 season, the ensemble is taking chamber music outside of the traditional concert hall – starting with the Devonport performance. See the latest Flagstaff for more information. Home Land at The Rose Centre
Don’t miss Home Land, the latest production from Company Theatre, directed by Sian Davis. Set in Otago, this gripping drama explores the life of a rugged southern farmer unprepared for change. The Tiny Show at The Rose Centre
Part of the Auckland Fringe Festival, this is a tiny, intimate theatre show for the whole family to enjoy, featuring a quiet clown and her troupe of toys. Tickets here.

Thelma (M) Previews
When 93-year-old Thelma gets duped by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson, she sets out on a quest to reclaim what was taken from her. A film exploring ageing, family and autonomy, while also being inspired by action movies such as Mission: Impossible. Tickets here.

The Three Musketeers (M) double feature

Father’s Day Previews: Runt (PG) & Harold and the Purple Crayon (PG)

Torpedo Bay Navy Museum
Visit the Navy Museum at Torpedo Bay to see its latest exhibition, Over Seas – Mā te Moana, a collection of objects brought home by RNZN sailors during overseas deployments all around the world including this Soviet naval cap (pictured below). It was gifted to Lieutenant Commander Denis Glover during a visit to the Soviet Union in 1975. A Commander of the Red Fleet presented the cap to Glover along with a Soviet Union veteran’s medal. The medal acknowledged his service during the Second World War, escorting Arctic convoys which protected the supply chain to Russia.

Devonport Museum
The museum has many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history, along with memorabilia relating to schools, transport, early settlers and families, and a collection of historIcal photographs.

Gallery Exhibitions
Sponge City at the Depot Artspace
This exhibition highlights the ways that plants and healthy soils, such as those in wetlands, can absorb heavy rain and release water slowly, reducing the impacts of flooding. The 10 exhibiting artists use printmaking to address the recent flooding in Auckland.

A Feather on the Ground at Satellite2 Gallery
Derek March’s collection of work reflects on avian extinction in Aotearoa. The paintings feature falling feathers, symbolising the bird species lost since humans arrived in New Zealand.
