General Events

Wakatere Boating Club Celebrates 100 years

Heritage Day Race 2026 revisits days gone by – and provides a spectacle to be enjoyed from the water or on shore. Club commodore Greg Salthouse (grandson of founding member John ‘Jack’ Brooke) will be firing the starting cannon from under the WBC Memorial Starting Tower. Two races will be sailed, with the opener featuring a sail‑past for photographers. The races are open to all club classes, with a warm welcome extended to guest Frostbite sailors. Heritage attire is optional.

Page to Future at Devonport Library 

An intergenerational reading programme where senior volunteers read stories and listen to children and adult English learners reading. Relaxed and informal conversations building confidence around reading and language. Drop in and choose a book to be enjoyed together.

Volcanic Vinyl Pop-Up Record Store

Devonport Navy Museum 

Visit the Torpedo Bay Navy Museum for a look into New Zealand’s naval history. View albums from the museum’s extensive photographic collections from World War I onwards, as part of the What a Life exhibition on display in the Foyer Gallery.

Devonport Museum

The museum has many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history, along with memorabilia relating to schools, transport, early settlers and families, and a collection of historical photographs. See our column about an object from the museum in the 13 February Flagstaff.

Celebrate Children’s Day

How to Make a Killing: Becket Redfellow sets out to reclaim the family fortune his mother was denied. To pull off his ambitious scheme, he must kill seven relatives who stand in his way, all the while navigating love, deception and betrayals.

The Testament of Ann Lee: A historical musical drama based on Ann Lee, the founding leader of the Shaker Movement, who is proclaimed as the female Christ by her followers. Based on real events, the film depicts Lee’s establishment of a utopian society and the Shakers’ worship through song and dance.

The Vic: A Love Story 

A short film that charts the fascinating history of the Victoria Theatre — the oldest purpose-built cinema in the Southern Hemisphere. Select film screenings are part of the fundraising campaign to raise money for new seats for the cinema.

The Very Same Munchausen, a play in Russian at the Rose Centre

This production from Plus-Minus is set in the 18th century, but with themes still relevant today, it explores individuality, rebellion and the courage to be yourself. Performed in Russian with English subtitles. Tickets and more information here.

Peter Knowles: In Plein Sight

At age 73, Devonport’s Peter Knowles picked up his paintbrushes again for the first time in four decades, and set about depicting the people he knew and the place he loves. His first exhibition comprises more than 30 works.

Audrey Goggin and Anouska Wallis-Lewis present hā, a collection of ceramic works and cyanotype prints that explore the life present within their materials.

Whare Ngaro at Depot Artspace

Final weekend! Ashleigh Zimmerman’s photographic exhibition Whare Ngaro addresses the kaupapa of infertility through a wahine Māori lens, provoking dialogue about wāhine and their intimate relationship with whakapapa.

Exhibitions at Satellite2 

Counter Culture pop-up began as a tribute to recently deceased a tribute to Sir Tim Shadbolt. The exhibits have since expanded, and fostered some interesting connections.

Lonely Arts Re-Loved is a community-focused exhibition, with buyers enjoying a diversity of artworks, the chance of finding a treasure, and hearing stories about the provenance of pieces.

The Private Members Bathing Club is a collection of works by artist Paul Herbert, celebrating the male form. Focused on gay male bathing, the show is timed to align with this month’s Auckland Pride Festival.

Rufus at the Rose Centre Art Spot

Each month, the Rose Centre Art Spot highlights the work of a different local artist. Ruth Greenaway is an intuitive artist whose work explores soul messaging through colour, mark-making and dream-inspired portraiture. This debut exhibition marks her return to art after many years, reconnecting with lifelong creative practice that also includes writing, storytelling and history.

North Shore Cricket Club

Both premier sides have away fixtures this Saturday. The men take on Kumeu at Huapai Domain, on day one of their sixth-round match. They currently lead the second-tier Tom Hellaby two-day competition. The women face Cornwall Cricket Club at Lloyd Elsmore Park.

In day-one home action this weekend, the premier reserves play Ellerlie and the premier 3 side are up against Kumeu.

Exhibition Opening & Performance at Depot Artspace

Joanna Cook and Steve Lovett’s (il)legible inkscription opens with an imprinting as the artists press text onto one another’s bodies. Their exhibition explores language as a palimpsest on bodies, transforming text across mobile, malleable surfaces – merging print and choreography.
