Auckland Heritage Festival
William C Daldy Heritage Steam Tug Open Days
Head down to Victoria Wharf to see the fascinating history of the tug which will be displayed on board. Members of the tug society will show visitors around the ship, including the impressive engine room. If weather allows, there may be live steam days.
When: Saturday and Sunday, 10am-4pm.

Maungauika / North Head Tours
A walk and talk over Maungauika/North Head’s historic Victorian coastal defences installed during the Russian war scares in the 1880s. Tour the gun positions and the tunnels. Hear the many stories and secrets that have swirled around for years, from hidden flying boats in secret, sealed tunnels to the belief that an old dump with potentially dangerous ammunition remains undiscovered. Tours approximately two hours, covered footwear recommended for unsealed paths and steps. Not suitable for prams or wheelchairs. Bookings 09 445 5186 or info@navymuseum.co.nz.

Auckland’s Founding 1840: A Neglected Story
Author Tessa Duder shares her latest research on the earliest days of Auckland in 1840, the background to two of her much-enjoyed books: Sarah Mathew, Explorer, Journalist and Auckland’s “First Lady” and The Sparrow. Come and learn about the ceremony on 18th September 1840 that founded Auckland as the new capital of New Zealand.

Potluck and Movie Night
The Devonport Community House is having an evening to connect, replenish and rejuvenate, to support hinengaro (mental wellbeing). Show off your skills in the kitchen and whip up a meal to contribute to the potluck dinner.

Climate Anxiety: Apprehension to Action
Coping with uncertainty, anger, fear and grief in a time of climate disaster? Come to a talk on climate anxiety, how to think about it, and how to turn it into action. The talk is for those suffering climate anxiety, those who know someone who is, and for those working for the environment who might be relating to people who could be dealing with, or prone to, climate anxiety.

Volcanic Vinyl
Add some records to your collection at the Volcanic Vinyl sale at Tiny Triumphs this Saturday. A selection of new and second-hand vinyl from a range of genres including funk, soul, punk, blues, rock, electronica, metal, reggae and hip-hop. A big second-hand drop is available this Saturday.

Community Planting at the Pump Track
Help fill a few gaps and stabilise the Woodall Park pump track jumps at this Sunday’s community tree planting. Bring along spades and other gardening gear such as rakes, weed-eaters and clippers to trim the weeds and groom the track. Some vouchers for a free coffee at Narrow Neck Beach Cafe will be provided after the planting.

Torpedo Bay Navy Museum
Visit the Navy Museum at Torpedo Bay to see its latest exhibition, Over Seas – Mā te Moana, a collection of objects brought home by Royal New Zealand Navy sailors during overseas deployments all around the world.
When: Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm.

Devonport Museum
The museum has many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history, along with memorabilia relating to schools, transport, early settlers and families, and a collection of historical photographs.

Friday Night Open Mic
Come to Harmony Hall tonight to hear talented local singers and maybe give it a go yourself. Bring a plate and BYO.

Sponge City at the Depot Artspace
Flooding at the Depot has added an extra element to this exhibition that highlights ways to reduce the adverse effects of climate change. Footage of water gushing down the gallery wall has been incorporated into the show by 10 exhibiting artists. Saturday is the last day to see it.

The Inbetween Place at Satellite2 Gallery
This exhibition features 48 colourful little felt and fabric fairy houses with varying designs made by students in two Year 11 Takapuna Grammar School textile classes.
