General Events

Bayswater Halloween Trail

Dress up and get in the halloween spirit at the Baywater Halloween Trail this Saturday. All the favourite activities from last year are back, including Devonport Drama’s ‘zombie run’, Circability’s games and face painting, and the Devonport Volunteer Fire Brigade will be on hand to show kids around their fire engine and let them spray the hose. Most importantly, participants get to follow the trail and collect their bounty of lollies along the way. 

 

When: Saturday, 5-7pm.

Torpedo Bay Navy Museum

Visit the Navy Museum at Torpedo Bay for a look into New Zealand’s maritime history. View the wartime artwork of Able Seaman, Owen (Miles) Spence along with the many other informative exhibits. 

When: Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm.
Where: 64 King Edward Pde.

 

Devonport Museum

Devonport Museum has many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history. A great spot to learn more about one of Auckland’s earliest 19th-century European settlements and the place we call home. Sport

Takapuna Grammar first XI 

The boys first XI face off against Kings College at home this Saturday. 

When: Saturday, 10:30. 

Where: TGS back fields, 10 Winscombe St. 

 

North Shore Cricket Club 

North Shore’s top team continues their two day season opener against old foes Takapuna, who have a 71-run first innings lead with only three wickets down. Former Sri Lanka A representative and batting all rounder Sanjaya Cathuranga will be making his debut as Shore look to overcome the hosts’ early advantage.

Auckland Marathon 

Thousands of marathon and half-marathon runners will be starting from King Edward Pde on Sunday morning. Entries are still open if you’re keen to tackle the challenge, or you could find a good spot to encourage the runners passing by before turning your attention to a certain rugby event in Paris. 

When: Sunday, Marathon, 6am start, half marathon, 6.50am.

Rugby World Cup Final 

Head down to the North Shore Rugby Club to watch the big final with a crowd of passionate rugby fans, or to The Kestrel or The Patriot – both are showing the game at 8am this Saturday and serving breakfast from 7am.

The Patriot

Damian Huwai brings the feel good vibes to The Patriot during happy hour tonight.

Lee Martin is all about bringing music back to its blues roots so be prepared for some tasty licks and rocking riffs when he plays The Kestrel tonight.

Aaru at Torpedo Bay Navy Museum

In the mood for jazz? Head to the Navy Museum to see ensemble Aaru perform the hits you know and love, plus some new sounds to discover.

Tainui Tuesdays at Devonport Yacht Club

Six-piece Tainui Tuesdays promise a set-list of classics ranging from Kiwi favourites to hits by artists such as the Rolling Stones, Neil Young and the Pogues – plus some French numbers. Tickets are $20 at the door.

Bunker Hill Unplugged

Climb Takarunga to see a collective of great young folk artists at the Bunker. Four musicians will play half an hour sets of originals plus a sprinkling of covers.

Gallery Exhibitions

The Depot Artspace

Two exhibitions:

In Grounding, Debbie Barber and Rachel Wegrzyn shape and craft natural materials to convey ideas that words can’t. Barber’s installation is an interactive piece inviting gallery visitors to walk over a path of clay spoils that represent what once was and what could have been. Wegrzyn’s work reflects the various states of her mental health using plasters, ground lava stone (basalt), Japanese ink and calligraphy paper.

X>1 reimagines ceramic art through dynamic collaborations. The artists from Auckland Studio Potters showcase meticulously crafted ceramics alongside experimental, unfinished works.
