General Events

Belmont Primary School Kids Fun Fair and Battle of the Schools

A fantastic day of fun, excitement and community spirit for kids (and adults) of all ages. Attractions include games, food stalls, entertainment, horse rides and the epic Battle of the Schools!

When: Saturday, 11am–3pm.

Where: 3A Harrison Ave.

 

Narrow Neck Food Truck Night

A diverse line-up of food trucks serving everything from bold street eats and smoky BBQ to dumplings, fried chicken and sweet treats. A pop-up bar will serve cold beers, wines, RTDs and non-alcoholic options. Roll out a picnic blanket, soak up the beachside atmosphere and make a night of it.

When: Saturday, 5–9pm.

Tiny Triumphs and Volcanic Vinyl Autumn Party

DJs, pop-up record store, craft beer — all in the convivial surroundings of Tiny Triumphs.

Cultural Connections Play Day

Enjoy playing board, tile, counter and card games from many different countries of the world. Games supplied or bring your own to teach others. Whether you’re a seasoned player or a total beginner, this relaxed, drop-in session celebrates community, culture and the simple joy of play. Part of Auckland Council’s World of Cultures Festival.

Tai Chi Workshop for Beginners

Introduction to Tai Chi. Includes a presentation and the teaching of basic movements from Chen-Style Tai Chi. Part of Auckland Council’s World of Cultures Festival. Cost: free. Booking required. More information here.

Noughty Wasters Free Makerspace sessions

Play and create with discarded items otherwise destined for landfill. Construct and de-construct using a variety of tools and art supplies. Suitable for all ages, but small children will require close supervision and a responsible adult must remain on-site during the session. Cost: free. Book and find out more here.

Toy Library at Devonport Community House

Hundreds of quality toys to try out or borrow, for kids aged up to six years old.

Page to Future at Devonport Library 

An intergenerational reading programme where senior volunteers read stories and listen to children and adult English learners reading. Relaxed and informal conversations building confidence around reading and language. Drop in and choose a book to be enjoyed together.

Weekend Nature Nursery 

Join Restoring Takarunga Hauraki at the community native plant nursery. Choose the activities that interest you, meet like-minded people and finish with kai and kōrero.

Weekly Kōrero and Kemu at Devonport Library

Practise beginner-level Māori language in a fun and relaxing environment. Or learn more te reo through playing card and board games. Drinks and games provided. Free of charge. Haere mai | all welcome.

Devonport Navy Museum 

Visit the Torpedo Bay Navy Museum for a look into New Zealand’s naval history. View albums from the museum’s extensive photographic collections from World War I onwards, as part of the What a Life exhibition on display in the Foyer Gallery.

Devonport Museum

The museum has many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history, along with memorabilia relating to schools, transport, early settlers and families, and a collection of historical photographs. See our column about an object from the museum in the 13 March Flagstaff.

Jake’s Ladder: Comedy Romance at The Rose Centre

Trapped in a stalled elevator, Jake and Rose are forced to confront a betrayal, which cost them both. Suspended between floors, they must choose between pride and redemption. When the doors finally open, neither of them is the same. Tickets here.

New films

  • Hoppers. Scientists have discovered how to ‘hop’ human consciousness into life-like robotic animals. Mabel, a 19-year-old animal-lover, seizes the opportunity to use the technology, uncovering mysteries within the animal world that are beyond anything she could have imagined.   • I Swear. A moving, uplifting account of the life of John Davidson, a Tourette Syndrome campaigner, who grew up with the condition in 1980s Scotland, at a time when it was little known and misunderstood. When: Tickets and times here.
  • The Magic Faraway Tree. In an adaptation of Enid Blyton’s popular children’s book, a family is forced to relocate to the remote English countryside. The children discover a magical tree and its extraordinary and eccentric residents. At the top of the tree, they are transported to spectacular and fantastical lands. Tickets and times here.
  • They Will Kill You. A  blood-soaked, horror-action-comedy film in which a young woman must survive the night at the Virgil, a demonic cult’s mysterious lair, before becoming their next offering. A brazen, big-screen battle of epic kills and wickedly dark humour. Tickets and times here.

The Vic: A Love Story 

A short film that charts the fascinating history of the Victoria Theatre — the oldest purpose-built cinema in the Southern Hemisphere. Select film screenings are part of the fundraising campaign to raise money for new seats for the cinema.

Friday Night Live at Harmony Hall

Exhibition Opening: Verity Kindleysides at Depot 3 Vic Road

Meet artist Verity Kindleysides and hear about the inspiration behind the work in her exhibition, Inside the Garden & Beyond (after Pat Hanly).

It explores the three-maunga Devonport peninsula, linked by jewel-like gardens, as a reinterpretation and homage to Pat Hanly’s early-1970s Inside the Garden series.

Intermediate Cyanotype: Workshop with Celia Walker

This session demonstrates more advanced ways of using the cyanotype process. A perfect follow-on from Celia’s Beginner’s Cyanotype Workshop. Designed for adults, Depot classes support skill-building, experimentation, and creative growth in a welcoming, hands-on setting. More information here.

(Il)legible inkscription at Depot Artspace

Final weekend! Joanna Cook and Steve Lovett’s exhibition, (il)legible inkscription, explores language as a palimpsest on bodies, transforming text across mobile, malleable surfaces – merging print and choreography. Read the story in the 13 March Flagstaff.

Eva at the Rose Centre Art Spot

Each month, the Rose Centre Art Spot highlights the work of a different local artist. During March, former Takapuna Grammar student Eva exhibits her still-life paintings of flowers, using gouache paint and pencil to explore colour, texture and detail.

Sport & Recreation

The 2026 Shore Smash

The annual T20 cricket showdown between North Shore Rugby Club and North Shore Cricket Club where “Rugby Grit meets Cricket Wit”. Former Black Cap Richard Jones captains Team Rugby. Team Cricket is captained by Mike Olsen. Enjoy an afternoon of sport, laughs, and classic Shore rivalry.

North Shore Rugby Club: Senior Rugby

Just one senior fixture at Vauxhall Rd this weekend, with the under-21s playing their final pre-season hit-out against College Rifles. After a late schedule change, the premier reserves are now set to travel away to face Kumeu in their competition opener — but playing at Warkworth Showgrounds.

The premiers have a bye this weekend, and start their competition on 4 April, at home to Mahurangi. Last Saturday, they beat Ponsonby 62-12 in a pre-season match.

North Shore Rugby Club: Junior Family Day

The annual Family Fun Day is a fantastic opportunity to meet the coaches and managers and connect with other families. The afternoon includes junior grade games, live music, a bouncy obstacle course and plenty of other activities to keep the kids entertained.

North Shore United Football Club

North Shore’s campaign in the Northern Region men’s championship began last weekend with a 2-1 home win against Hibiscus Coast. This weekend they are away to Mount Albert Ponsonby, starting at 3pm at Anderson Park, with the under-23s facing the same opposition at 12pm.

 

Shore to Shore Fun Run & Walk

This fundraising event for local schools is a great day out running or walking along our local shorelines. The course starts at Takapuna Grammar School, taking in Takapuna and Milford beaches, and finishing at Milford Reserve. Costumes and spot prizes are part of the fun. Bus transport to and from the finish area is available.
