Pianist Paddy Cornfield and the Devonport Chamber Orchestra at Holy Trinity Church
Patrick (Paddy) Cornfield celebrates his 20th year of performing piano concerti with the orchestra with Brahms’ first piano concerto. The orchestra will also perform Ravel’s lovely Pavane for a Dead Princess. Nicholas Forbes is conducting. Tickets at the door (no Eftpos) – adults $25, seniors and students $20, children under 12 free. See the 26 July Flagstaff for our interview with Cornfield.

The Fabulous Four (M) Previews
Previewing this weekend is The Fabulous Four, a comedy about three lifelong friends who travel to Florida to be bridesmaids at the surprise wedding of their college girlfriend, played by Bette Midler. Tickets and times here.

Friday Night Open Mic

Bunker Hill Unplugged

Football: North Shore United
North Shore host Northern Rovers in the Northern Men’s Championship on Saturday.

General Events
Community Planting, Allen Hill Stadium
Restoring Takarunga Hauraki, North Shore United and First Devonport Scouts have partnered to host a community planting at the football club’s stadium. Spades and gloves provided. Sausage sizzle to follow.

Torpedo Bay Navy Museum
Visit the Navy Museum at Torpedo Bay to see its latest exhibition, Over Seas – Mā te Moana, a collection of objects brought home by RNZN sailors during overseas deployments all around the world. Exhibits include items such as a pair of jika-tabi shoes (pictured below) acquired by sailors when in Japan as part of the occupying forces after the end of the Second World War. Jika-tabi with rubber soles were worn by Japanese soldiers during the Second World War.

Volcanic Vinyl
Add some records to your collection at the Volcanic Vinyl sale at Tiny Triumphs this Saturday. A selection of new and second-hand vinyl from a range of genres including punk, funk, jazz, soul, hip hop, rock, metal and electronica, with lots of local music available.

The museum has many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history, along with memorabilia relating to schools, transport, early settlers and families, and a collection of historIcal photographs.

Matariki Exhibition at the Depot Artspace
Mai i te Moana ki te Whenua is a multi-media exhibition, featuring the work of nine artists, that shares stories of Matariki and Puanga, recognising the ways that this time of year is celebrated.

Real Good at Satellite2 Gallery
Grant Alexander’s mixed-media exhibition features a range of around 25 collage and lettering works with painterly touches. Many are influenced by history, media and current events.
