Puanga-Matariki Group Exhibition: Te Waka o Rangi
This exhibition explores the rich kōrero shared across the Pacific about our celestial whānau and the many ways different cultures understand these stars. By looking to Puanga, Matariki, and the wider cosmos, we are reminded of our deep relationship with the natural world. Read the story about the exhibition in the 17 July Flagstaff.

Matariki 2026: Whakairo (Wood-Carving) Workshop
A hands-on whakairo (wood-carving) session designed for whānau to learn together. Create a simple carved piece while connecting with the foundations of this practice. Suitable for ages 10 and over. This session is in support of Depot Artspace’s Te Waka o Rangi exhibition (see below). More information and tickets here.

Two New Exhibitions Open at Satellite2
River Spirit. Water is a thread that runs through this exhibition by local artist Graham Downs. The rhythm and feeling of rivers are painted into an almost cubist simplicity.
Listen and Feel. Sophie Clark’s works capture the energy and essence of Piha, on Auckland’s west coast. Waterfalls, native birds and trees, and the ocean are brought inside, to demonstrate the importance of our city’s environment.
When: Exhibition openings, Saturday, 12–3pm. Otherwise, Wednesday to Sunday, 10am–2pm.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople: Homage to Sam Neill
A special screening to celebrate the extraordinary career of Sam Neill. Experience one of his most beloved performances on the big screen and honour an actor whose work has left a lasting mark on New Zealand cinema.

New Releases
Colours of Time (M). A French period drama following four cousins who inherit an abandoned house in rural Normandy. Drawn together by a shared family mystery, they retrace the footsteps of an ancestor, who set out to find her mother in Paris. As the timelines of 1895 and 2024 intertwine, the cousins’ modern perspectives are challenged by life in Belle Époque France.

I, Object (PG). A heartfelt New Zealand drama, set in Wellington. Grieving the loss of his father and unable to relate to the people in his life, 10-year-old Tom takes refuge in the everyday objects around him.

The Tale about Emelya
The Tale About Emelya is a fun family-friendly production based on a Russian fairy tale. A libretto (booklet containing the script and vocals) in English will be provided. Russian-style desserts and savoury pastries will be on sale before the show, so come a little earlier to enjoy the delicious food. Sport & Recreation
North Shore Rugby Club
North Shore’s under-21s take on Massey in their championship final at Vauxhall on Saturday afternoon. The under-85kg side travels north to face Mahurangi in their plate final.
Senior prizegiving on Sunday celebrates the achievements of players, coaches and volunteers. All members, supporters, sponsors, family and friends are invited to reflect on another memorable season for the club.
When: Saturday, 1pm (under-21s) and Sunday, 2pm (prizegiving).

North Shore United Football Club
North Shore seniors and under-23s are both playing at home to West Coast Rangers on Saturday in the Northern Region Football League competition.

In the community football leagues, the First Team Women are away on Sunday, at East Coast Bays. Local action from North Shore teams is at Bayswater Park at 3pm on Saturday (men) and Allen Hill Stadium at 11am on Sunday (women).
TGS Rowing Open Day
Takapuna Grammar School Rowing Club is recruiting new rowers in years 8 to 12. Pop along to take a look round the facilities, chat with coaches and rowers, and have a go out on the water or on an erg. Athletes and parents are all welcome.
