Reflections of Visual Encounters at Satellite2 Gallery 

Devonport photographer Robert Peper’s recent work focuses on reflections, and how forms are altered as we look through an alternative lens. View the works here and see next week’s Flagstaff for a story about the Paper’s approach.

RE: OBJECT: At the Depot Artspace

RE: OBJECT showcases the work of a diverse group of artists who are halfway through a two-year Object Maker Aotearoa Fellowship. Focusing on material play alongside conceptual insights, the artists explore the rich intersection between craft, design and visual arts.

There’s Still Tomorrow advance screenings 

A small masterpiece that broke all box-office records in Italy in 2023, this film set in post-World War II Rome tells of a woman who somehow continues to dream while fulfilling everyone’s expectations but her own, then seizes the day for herself and for her daughter. In Italian with English subtitles. Tickets and times here.

Sheila’s Island at the Rose Centre

Four hapless middle-aged, middle-class, middle-management businesswomen become the first people to be shipwrecked on an island in the UK’s Lake District in this black comedy at the Rose Centre. For more information on the show, see last week’s Devonport Flagstaff. Tickets available here.

NeverNeverLand: Clubbing Experience 

Another night of sophisticated house and nu-disco for over 30s with DJs The Brother Grinn, DJ Spinner, The Coatesville Collective and Rich Coles. A safe and friendly venue for people who need to be home in time for the babysitters. Licensed bar. $20 cash or card on door.

Kurosawa Season: The Hidden Fortress (1958)

A primary influence on George Lucas’s Star Wars, this grand-scale adventure in which a general is charged with guarding his defeated clan’s princess as the two smuggle royal treasure across hostile territory is a rip-roaring ride and among Akira Kurosawa’s most beloved films. Tickets here.

Bunker Hill Unplugged: End of the Year Blast Off 

The Devonport Folk Club hosts a special Bunker Hill Unplugged session to close out the year. Eden Iris Trio , Levi Lights On, Lindsey Shields and duo Nina Lane and Bryan Owens are all set to perform. Tickets: $10 cash at the door (no eftpos). To park up Takarunga, the access code is *1109# is valid from 6-10.30pm.

Torpedo Bay Navy Museum 

Visit the Navy Museum at Torpedo Bay to see Over Seas – Mā te Moana, an exhibition of objects brought home by Royal New Zealand Navy sailors during overseas deployments all around the world.

The museum has many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history, along with memorabilia relating to schools, transport, early settlers and families, and a collection of historical photographs.

RTH End of Year Celebration
