Matariki Festival 

Kapa haka performances, games, a market, a bar, entertainment and a bonfire are all on the programme for the Matariki Festival at Bayswater School. Enjoy the entertainment and activities under the themed decorative lighting. 

When: Saturday 3-7pm.

Matariki Tamariki 

Get in the Matariki spirit with your young ones at the Devonport Community House, where crafts, weaving, face painting, seed planting and a visit from Moana herself are all on the programme. 

When: Sunday, 10am-1pm. 

Where: 32 Clarence St. 

 

Noughty Wasters Makerspace Session 

Bring the kids to Resource Recovery Devonport to play and create with items otherwise destined for landfill. A free family session, suitable for all ages, but children under three years old will require close supervision. Numbers limited to 16, bookings required here. (Parents/caregivers will need to stay with their children, with one adult required per three children.) 

When: Sunday 10am-12pm.

Charles St Reserve Neighbourhood Planting

Join Restoring Takarunga Hauraki in a session of planting native species along the Oneoneroa Shoal Bay ecological focus area, followed by a sausage sizzle and treats. 

When: Sunday, 10am-noon. 

Where: Charles St Reserve (western end of Charles St along the estuary). 

 

Piki Te Ora journal launch at Devonport Library

Come and celebrate the Matariki launch of Piki Te Ora, a well-being journal for children by Hira Nathan, author of best-selling Whakawhetai – Gratitude, and Jessie Eyre. All ages welcome. Chat to the authors, explore some children’s activities based on the book and enjoy some afternoon tea. 

When: Sunday, 2-4pm.

Parking changes consultation with Auckland Transport

Come and contribute your views and chat to the Auckland Transport staff in attendance about the proposed changes to Devonport parking arrangements.

Torpedo Bay Navy Museum 

Visit the Navy Museum at Torpedo Bay, with its extensive collection of photos, artefacts, medals and more, for a look into New Zealand’s maritime history. 

When: Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm.

Devonport Museum

The museum has many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history, along with memorabilia relating to schools, transport, early settlers and families, and a collection of historIcal photographs.

Rugby: Takapuna Grammar School First XV. 

Takapuna hosts Mahurangi College.

Shore hosts Metro FC in an important fixture: a win would lift the home side out of the relegation zone.

Friday Night Open Mic

Pūono O Ngā Whetū

An afternoon of Matariki and star-themed music with the Auckland Youth Symphonic Band, with tunes from famous works such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Skyfall. Free.

Where: Devonport Ferry Terminal. 

 

Lithuanian Film Festival 

This one-day festival presents four Lithuanian films at the Vic Theatre. First up is a children’s film and a drawing workshop, followed by two compelling documentaries and a Sundance-winning drama. The screenings of Periodical and Slow will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.Tickets and times here.

Concre[ā]te at the Depot Artspace

Concre[ā]te is an exhibition that showcases large-scale mixed-media artwork crafted by artist duo 2PARU – Tui Kayoko Hirabayashi and Marie Hemo Titi Mapa. Both artists draw inspiration from the ever-evolving cityscape of Tāmaki Makaurau. They fuse painting, installation, and sculpture into an exploration of urban narratives.

The photo, the object, the story at Satellite2 Gallery

Ten-time World of Wearable Art finalist Beatrice Carlson brings her newest exhibition to Satellite2 Gallery. The photo, the object, the story uses 11 photographs, 11 pieces of jewellery and eight objects to illustrate Carlson’s creative process, capturing aspects of New Zealand history at the same time.

Believe – Rainforest Sentinels

As part of the Auckland Festival of Photography, photojournalist James Whitlow Delano presents a documentary series of black and white photographs depicting indigenous people and the places where they live in various countries he has visited.
