Devonport Chamber Orchestra
The chamber orchestra returns to Holy Trinity Church with talented young violinist Hayden Chiu, who will be the soloist in Bruch’s’ popular first violin concerto. The orchestra will also perform Beethoven’s second symphony. Mark Bennett will be conducting. Tickets at the door (no EFTPOS) – adults $20, seniors and students $15, children under 12 free. Friday Night Open Mic

Transformers One (PG) Previews
The untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, better-known as sworn enemies, who once were friends bonded like brothers. The first-ever fully CG-animated Transformers movie features a star-studded voice cast, including Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry and Scarlett Johansson. Tickets and times here.

The Wild Robot (PG) Previews
DreamWorks Animation brings to life Peter Brown’s bestseller The Wild Robot. “Roz” is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings and build relationships with the animals. The Wild Robot is a powerful story about self-discovery, technology and nature, and what it means to be alive and connected to all living things. Oscar nominee writer-director Chris Sanders directs a star-studded voice cast including Lupita Nyong’o and Pedro Pascal. Tickets and times here.

Big Tasty at The Kestrel
Electrifying 8-piece funk and soul band Big Tasty will treat The Kestrel patrons to their unique blend of classic funk and soul after the full-time whistle ends the All Blacks vs Wallabies game.

E-Waste Recycling
If you’ve got old electrical items such as monitors, cables, keyboards or mobile phones lying around the house, take it to The Clay Store this Saturday to get rid of it. Household appliances, old batteries, clean polystyrene and cardboard will also be collected for recycling. Drop off small amounts for $5, a boot-load for $10, a car-load for $20 and a trailer-load for $50.

Volcanic Vinyl
Add some records to your collection at the Volcanic Vinyl sale at Tiny Triumphs this Saturday. A selection of new and second-hand vinyl from a range of genres including funk, soul, punk, blues, rock, electronica, metal, reggae and hip hop.

Community Planting at the Pump Track
Help fill a few gaps and stabilise the Woodall Park pump track jumps at this Sunday’s community tree planting. Bring along spades and other gardening gear such as rakes, weed eaters and clippers to trim the weeds and groom the track. Some vouchers for a free coffee at Narrow Neck Beach Cafe will be provided after the planting.

Noughty Wasters
Bring the kids to Resource Recovery Devonport to play and create with items otherwise destined for landfill. A free family session, suitable for all ages, but children under three years old will require close supervision. Bookings required here (Parents/caregivers will need to stay with their children, with one adult required per three children.)

Navy Softball Open Day
Give softball a go this Sunday at the Royal New Zealand Navy club’s open day. Games, a free sausage sizzle, and free spot prizes for the kids will be available on the day.

Torpedo Bay Navy Museum
Visit the Navy Museum at Torpedo Bay to see its latest exhibition, Over Seas – Mā te Moana, a collection of objects brought home by Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) sailors during overseas deployments all around the world. Devonport Museum
The museum has many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history, along with memorabilia relating to schools, transport, early settlers and families, and a collection of historical photographs.

Sponge City at the Depot Artspace
Flooding at the Depot has added an extra element to this exhibition that highlights ways to reduce the adverse effects of climate change. Footage of water gushing down the gallery wall has been incorporated into the show by 10 exhibiting artists. See latest Flagstaff for more.
