Purple Poppy Day at the Navy Museum

Purple Poppy Day recognises animals who have served or are serving alongside our armed forces. Join the museum team and Devonport RSA for a short commemoration. Listen to RNZN Pipes and Drums and meet detector dog Vito and his handler. Bring your pet on a lead or in an animal carrier. Purple ribbons available for your pet at Fitzgerald Taylor (2 Queens Pde) or at the museum on the day.

The Great Devonport Tool Bazaar

What a Life: Photographic Exhibition Opens at Devonport Navy Museum 

View albums from the museum’s extensive photographic collections from World War I onwards. Free admission. Suitable for all ages.

The museum has many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history, along with memorabilia relating to schools, transport, early settlers and families, and a collection of historical photographs. Animal Farm at the Rose Centre

The stage adaptation of George Orwell’s satire Animal Farm is directed by drama student and Westlake alumni Arlo Feeney, and features other former ‘Westlakers’ in the producer and acting roles. The story is set on Manor Farm, where the animals overthrow their farmer, and a new order emerges.

The Vic: A Love Story. A short film that charts the fascinating history of the Victoria Theatre — the oldest purpose-built cinema in the Southern Hemisphere — from its beginnings in 1912 when it was a “picture palace” showing silent films, to the advent of the “talkie” movies and now the digital age. Select film screenings are part of the fundraising campaign to raise money for new seats for the cinema. Tickets here.

Pre-loved art and sculpture exhibitions at Satellite2 

Lonely Arts Re-Loved is a community-focused exhibition, with buyers enjoying a diversity of artworks, the chance of finding a treasure, and hearing stories about the provenance of pieces.

The Private Members Bathing Club is a collection of works by artist Paul Herbert, celebrating the male form. Focused on gay male bathing, the show is timed to align with this month’s Auckland Pride Festival.

Rufus at the Rose Centre Art Spot

Each month, the Rose Centre Art Spot highlights the work of a different local artist. Ruth Greenaway is an intuitive artist whose work explores soul messaging through colour, mark-making and dream -inspired portraiture. This debut exhibition marks her return to art after many years, reconnecting with lifelong creative practice that also includes writing, storytelling and history.

North Shore premiers resume play against Ellerslie on day two of their fifth-round match. Currently top of the second-tier Tom Hellaby two-day competition table, Shore declared at 268/6. Ellerslie are at 22/2 after 10 overs.

The Shore women premiers one-day side takes on Auckland University at Colin Maiden Park on Saturday.

Coming Up Next Weekend

A Century of Sailing at Wakatere Boating Club

Wakatere Boating Club celebrates 100 years. The on‑water and on‑shore events include a quiz, dinner and two races. The Heritage Race Day, on 28 February, will see all club classes gather on the beach for a Le Mans-style start from the memorial tower.
