Devonport This Weekend – 1, 2, 3 March

General Events 

William C. Daldy Live Steam

Take the opportunity to see the engine of this historic steam tug fired up this weekend. Moored on Devonport Wharf, the vessel’s boilers are being tested after repairs. Members of the public are invited to learn all about the Daldy’s long history and the latest news about its future by chatting to the enthusiasts who look after the boat’s preservation, and are welcome to view inside by donation. Closed-toe shoes are required for going aboard. 

When: Saturday and Sunday.

Devonport Market

The Devonport Market’s stalls have something for everyone: homeware, crafts, boutique items and more.

When: Saturday, 9am-2pm. 

Where: Victoria Wharf and inside the Devonport Ferry Terminal.  

 

North Shore United Open Day 

Celebrate the opening of North Shore’s newly renovated clubrooms this Saturday. Activities through the day include a men’s first team game against Birkenhead United, an inflatable football arena for children and seven-a-side games. 

When: Saturday, 11am-3pm

Where: Allan Hill Stadium, 25 Lake Rd. 

 

Greyhound Speed Dating

If you’re looking for a four-legged companion, meet five eligible greyhound bachelors and bachelorettes, all in search of a forever home, at Vondel this Sunday.

Sunday Roller Discos

Head down to the Devonport Community House this Sunday for a roller disco. Professional instructors will be leading the way so all skill levels will be able to enjoy themselves. The event is free to attend. Register by emailing ​​events@devonportcomhouse.co.nz. Skate hire is $3.

Torpedo Bay Navy Museum

Visit the Navy Museum at Torpedo Bay, with its extensive collection of photos, artefacts, medals and more, for a look into New Zealand’s maritime history. See the new Operation Science exhibition, featuring displays of Belmont Intermediate School students’ experiments.  

When: Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm.

Devonport Museum

Many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history can be enjoyed at Devonport Museum. Check out the museum’s memorabilia relating to schools, transport, early settlers and families, along with Devonport Borough Council scrapbooks and a historic photograph collection. 

When: 2-4pm, Saturday and Sunday.

The Vic Theatre

The Great Escaper (M) Previews 

This weekend join the Vic for preview screenings of The Great Escaper; a British feature inspired by the true story of Bernard Jordan who escaped from his care home to attend the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings in France, starring Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson. Tiny Triumphs 

Local bands King Horse Empire and Boneshakers will rock out Tiny’s this Saturday. Prepare for heavy riffs and a good time for all.

Indie-pop singer-songwriter Marianne Leigh plays a mix of covers and originals tonight.

Sport

North Shore Cricket Club

North Shore’s premier side return to Devonport Domain this Saturday, for the second day of the two day fixture against Eden Roskill. With the visitors having posted 343/9, the onus is on Shore’s batters in what is a crucial match for their season.

The Depot Artspace

Biomorphic Beings by Kiara Schaumkell, Rose Lasham, Sasha Ellis, and Saskia van Dijk uses a combination of sculpture and painting to explore the concept of bodily regeneration.

Leap

Transport yourself to a time where hair was bigger and telephones were stuck to the wall at Clinton Christian’s 80s-themed exhibition, Leap. It features colourful and nostalgic works referencing popular culture and technology of the time. To hear the inspiration and journey behind the exhabition, attend Christian’s artist talk on Saturday at 3pm.
