General Events

Friday After Five

Multiple live music acts and an outdoor food alley featuring six stalls are among the drawcards when one of Devonport’s most popular events returns tonight. Magicians, street games and activities, face painting and bubble art are also on offer on a night of pedestrian-friendly fun in the village.

Devonport Santa Parade 

The 18th Devonport Santa Parade, organised by the Devonport Lions Club, will again be led by North Shore Brass, with the Navy Pipes and Drums bringing up the rear of a procession of floats representing community groups, schools and businesses – along with the man in red himself, of course.

Devonport Christmas Festival 

Following the parade, there’s a chance to meet Father Christmas and enjoy a festival of seasonal fun on Windsor Reserve and outside the ferry terminal, with stalls and the traditional Christmas dance and music showcase, Dance in Park.

Ethical Christmas Market 

Stock up on goods with an easy conscience at this market of sustainably produced goods.

Bayswater Markets 

For some market buzz on Saturday, head to O’Neills Park at the western end of Bayswater Ave.

Torpedo Bay Navy Museum

Visit the Navy Museum at Torpedo Bay for a look into New Zealand’s maritime history. Children can use their detective skills to track down objects on a new museum trail of hidden artifacts.

When: Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm.

Devonport Museum

Devonport Museum has many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history. A great spot to learn more about one of Auckland’s earliest 19th-century European settlements and the place we call home. 

When: 2-4pm, Saturday and Sunday.

The Kestrel

Indie-pop singer-songwriter Marianne Leigh returns with a mix of covers and originals tonight.    

When: Friday, 7-9pm.

Kit Murray and his guitar provide entertainment at the Kestrel this Sunday.

The Patriot

Singer and guitarist Edwin Judd will bring his signature funky, poppy and alternative sound when he plays at the Patriot tonight.

Tiny Triumphs

Kick on from Friday After Five at Tiny Triumphs. When the bands end at 9pm, take in a set  from DJ Pusherman.

Summer Nights at the Community House  

Five Auckland-based bands – the Rues, Great Failure, the Usuals, High Voltage and Mudslide – bring the rocking summer spirit to their gig at the Devonport Community Hall this Sunday. Indie, punk, metal and classic rock are all on the set lists for these young bands. Tickets $15

One Life preview screenings

BAFTA-nominated director James Hawes (Slow Horses) helms the true-story drama One Life, about Nicholas Winton, who helped save hundreds of children from the Nazis on the eve of World War II. It stars Anthony Hopkins, Johnny Flynn and Helena Bonham Carter. Preview screenings this weekend at the Vic, ahead of the film’s official release on Boxing Day. Tickets here

Next Goal Wins preview screenings 

The Vic also has preview screenings of Next Goal Wins, directed by Taika Waititi. In the footsteps of a 2014 documentary, it follows the American Samoa football team – the worst in the world – and Dutch coach Thomas Rongen’s attempts to turn around their fortunes. Tickets here

Multi-artist exhibition 

Three local artists, Lily Kaukau, Stacey Edgar and Terehia Walker exhibit works at Whare Toi this weekend. Kaukau’s work encompasses a wide range of mediums, from paintings to jewellery, fashion design, and digital art. Edgar’s photography is inspired by the beauty of everyday things, while Walker is an up-and-coming self-taught artist whose passion is working with wood to create practical items for everyday use.

The Depot Artspace

Final Resting Place features sculptural figures that invite you to look into their illuminated openings, revealing hidden realms inside. Inspired by the cycles of birth, daughterhood, and home, ceramic artist Yeonjae Choi explores exterior forms and interior space, turning each sculpture into a multi-dimensional experience.
