General Events

Restoring Takarunga Hauraki Community Event   

Join the ecological restoration group for a community event at Bardia St Reserve this Sunday. Members of the public are invited to learn about testing water quality, explore the catchment, clear pest plants and pest traps and do some enrichment planting. The event will end with a sharing of stories over light refreshments.

When: Sunday, 3-5pm. 

Where: Bardia Street Reserve, corner of Bardia St and Creamer Ave. 

 

Devonport Market

The Devonport Market’s stalls have something for everyone: homeware, crafts, boutique items and more. 

When: Saturday, 9am-2pm. 

Where: Victoria Wharf and inside the Devonport Ferry Terminal.  

 

Volcanic Vinyl 

Add some records to your collection at the Volcanic Vinyl sale at Tiny Triumphs. A selection of new and second-hand vinyl from a range of genres including funk, soul, punk, blues, rock, electronica, metal, reggae and hip-hop.

Bollywood Night – Diwali Celebration at North Shore United 

Head to the North Shore United club rooms at Allen Hill this Saturday for a Diwali celebration involving food, dance, dress-up and raffles. Tickets $55 or $400 for a table of eight. Book by emailing clubmanager@nsu.org.nz. Queries contact Sita on 027 754 8892.

Narrow Neck Skate Park – Community Drop-in Session 

Have your say about the proposed skate park facility at Woodall Park this Sunday when Auckland Council hosts an open day to engage the community with the project. From 11am onwards beginner obstacles will be set up for the enjoyment of children who are invited to bring skateboards, blades, bikes or scooters.

Torpedo Bay Navy Museum 

Visit the Navy Museum at Torpedo Bay to see Over Seas – Mā te Moana, an exhibition of objects brought home by Royal New Zealand Navy sailors during overseas deployments all around the world. 

When: Saturday and Sunday, 10am-5pm. 

Where: 64 King Edward Pde.

 

Devonport Museum

The museum has many fascinating displays showing local natural, geological and human history, along with memorabilia relating to schools, transport, early settlers and families, and a collection of historical photographs.

When: 12-4pm, Saturday and Sunday.

Sport 

North Shore Cricket Club 

North Shore start their second two day fixture of the season on Saturday against Cornwall Cricket Club. Shore will be aiming for an improvement on their season-opening first-innings loss in a rain-affected match against University.

Friday Night Open Mic

Come to Harmony Hall tonight to hear talented local singers and maybe give it a go yourself. Bring a plate and BYO.

Joni Mitchell Tribute Concert With Jan Elliott

Dive into the music of Joni Mitchell when Jan Elliott takes the stage at Harmony Hall this Saturday. Elliott has been performing Joni Mitchell songs since she first picked up a guitar at age 17 and played her first tribute show in November 2022. Tickets available here.

The Gemini Effect at Tiny Triumphs 

North Shore power trio The Gemini Effect play at the Clarence St bar tonight. Their diverse influences include artists such as Joe Strummer, Jack White, Eddie Vedder, Sublime, Radiohead and The Prodigy

KinoFest German Film Festival at the Vic 

Head to the Vic for the opening night of this festival on Saturday from 7.30pm, with complimentary German-style food and drinks on offer, followed by Toni Baumann’s film 791 KM. Four more films screen on Sunday 3 November. Tickets and times here.

Gallery Exhibitions   

Also My Hometown: At a new location for the Depot Artspace 

Also My Hometown: A 30-year retrospective of artwork is a comprehensive exhibition of the landscape paintings and ceramic works of artist Onlie Ong, who has had a long and varied career. The exhibition is on the ground floor of the former Devonport Borough Council building on Victoria Rd. The Depot is using the building’s upper floor as a creative hub for 16 local artists.

Kings, Saints and Prophets at Satellite2 Gallery 

Brett a’Court delves into New Zealand history in 11 art works examining Christianity and Māori prophets who often sought peaceful resolutions over land issues, tribal conflicts and injustices.
